Streamlate 0.3.0 is the biggest update yet. A full audit of the app found and fixed 177 problems. Then two more rounds of end-to-end testing, with every finding double-checked, fixed 60 more. The app also has a new look and a proper Windows installer.
New installer
- A normal Windows installer: per-user, no admin prompt, and listed under Settings → Apps so you can uninstall it. The uninstaller asks whether to keep your settings.
- It brings its own private Python with everything already installed. Nothing to download during setup, and it never touches any Python you already have.
- Ollama (the local AI engine) is not installed by default any more. It's downloaded only if you pick a local-AI quality level.
- NVIDIA PCs get the GPU speech engine on first launch, with a progress window, so captions really run on the graphics card.
- Installing over an older Streamlate keeps your settings, background and subtitle files. An older ZIP install is found through its Desktop shortcut and its settings are carried over.
New look
- One dark theme for every window: the setup window, control panel, first-run window, viewer mode and the installer. Dark title bars, rounded buttons, readable text, sharp on high-DPI laptops, and full keyboard use.
- New setup: pick I stream or I just want to watch streams in my language, with a live microphone meter and plain-language status.
- The control panel shows what's really happening: Running, Starting…, Downloading speech model 42%, "Can't reach chat", Stopped (with a Start button).
Fixed (highlights)
- OBS auto-setup, the Twitch CC button and the OBS status didn't work on fresh installs (a package was never installed). They work now.
- YouTube chat never connected on fresh installs, and a pasted channel link replayed old VOD chat. Both fixed; Super Chats and memberships now show too.
- Speech recognition silently ran on the CPU for new NVIDIA users, so captions fell minutes behind. Fixed, with a CPU fallback that picks a model the CPU can keep up with.
- The on-stream chat feed and phone page went blank after any restart. They now resync instantly, and messages deleted by mods disappear.
- Privacy and safety of public links: Viewers QR / Voice link tunnels now always stop when switched off or when Streamlate exits, and can't publish another program by mistake. Private Discord (voice-chat) lines never reach the stream feed or the public page. The public page can't be abused to get your IP rate-limited by Google.
- Read-aloud no longer falls back to the robotic voice for good after one odd message, and has proper voices for all 30 languages.
- Mic handling: devices are remembered by name, unplugging a USB mic no longer kills captions, and unusable devices aren't offered.
- Settings are never lost or silently reset: a typo in a settings file is backed up, and two windows saving at once no longer undo each other.
- Captions and viewer mode show download progress the first time instead of looking stuck.
- Viewer mode: screen-text translation keeps working (it stopped after 5 seconds), works on every monitor, and has a visible ⋯ menu.
- The updater now stages updates safely and only ever moves forward.
- Hebrew is shown right-to-left properly, and the viewer pages, QR card and installer are translated into all 8 languages.
Good to know
- Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer isn't code-signed yet: click More info → Run anyway. With Windows 11 Smart App Control on, unsigned apps are blocked; a signed installer is on the way.
- Something not working? Control panel → Copy errors → send it to the developer.
